India's Exports Up 35% in February

Oil imports during February, 2008 were valued at US $ 6272.18 million which was 39.52 per cent higher than oil imports valued at US $ 4495.64 million in the corresponding period last year. Non-oil imports during February, 2008 were estimated at US $ 12194.27 million which was 26.35 per cent higher than non-oil imports of US$ 9651.19 million in February, 2007.

EXPORTS (including re-exports)

Exports during February, 2008 were valued at US $ 14237.43 million which was 35.25 per cent higher than the level of US $ 10526.67 million during February, 2007. In rupee terms, exports touched Rs. 56569 crore, which was 21.7 per cent higher than the value of exports during February, 2007. Cumulative value of exports for the period April- February, 2008 was US$ 138427.83 million (Rs. 556686.15 crore) as against US$ 112636.95 million (Rs. 511016.19 crore) registering a growth of 22.9 per cent in Dollar terms and 8.94 per cent in Rupee terms over the same period last year.

IMPORTS

Imports during February, 2008 were valued at US $ 18466.45 million representing an increase of 30.53 per cent over the level of imports valued at US $ 14146.83 million in February, 2007. In Rupee terms, imports increased by 17.45 per cent. Cumulative value of imports for the period April- February, 2008 was US$ 210895 million (Rs. 848332.68 crore) as against US$ 161959.52 million (Rs. 734984.33 crore) registering a growth of 30.21 per cent in Dollar terms and 15.42 per cent in Rupee terms over the same period last year.

CRUDE OIL AND NON-OIL IMPORTS

Oil imports during February, 2008 were valued at US $ 6272.18 million which was 39.52 per cent higher than oil imports valued at US $ 4495.64 million in the corresponding period last year.  Oil imports during April- February, 2008 were valued at US$ 66013.49 million which was 26.81 per cent higher than the oil imports of US$ 52056.95 million in the corresponding period last year.

Non-oil imports during February, 2008 were estimated at US $ 12194.27 million which was 26.35 per cent higher than non-oil imports of US$ 9651.19 million in February, 2007. Non-oil imports during April- February, 2008 were valued at US$ 144881.50 million which was 31.83 per cent higher than the level of such imports valued at US$ 109902.57 million in April- February, 2007.

D. TRADE BALANCE

The trade deficit for April- February, 2008 was estimated at US $ 72467.16 million which was higher than the deficit at US $ 49322.58 million during April- February, 2007.
